11 Modern Empowering Quotes That Will Keep You Going

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Getting bored of those same quotes? Me, too! We get it. "Nothing is impossible, the word itself says 'I'm possible.'" Thanks, Audrey Hepburn for that quote. It's great and motivational and all, but aren't there more modern inspirational quotes out there? The answer is yes, there are. But, a lot of people overlook them and just stick to the same quotes that you see on Pinterest. I'm not sure why because these newer quotes are just as inspirational and empowering, which is why I decided to compile a list of them! From celebrities, movies, YouTubers, life coaches, and CEOs, here are 11 Modern Empowering Quotes that Will Keep You Going.

1.) "Be you all the time." Cara Alwill Leyba

A quote that encourages you to be yourself.

If you don't know Cara Alwill Leyba, she's a master life coach, is the author of Girl Code, and the blogger behind Champagne Diet. She's a writer who's all about being authentically you. She talks about how much power there is in being yourself because your experiences can help and comfort someone else. A lot of people tend to fall into a trap of trying to be someone that they think other people want them to be, and that's a disservice to yourself and to the people surrounding you. You're taking away the uniqueness that you would have to offer to them and yourself.

2.) "I’ve embarked on a new set of challenges before me, and I've been afraid. For I know that fear is ugly, but fear has no face. It stares at you at many dimensions, but the worst angle is dead on. And I'm looking forward to the day that I greet fear wholeheartedly, nose-to-nose, and tell it, 'You've met your goddamn match.'" -Solange Knowles

This is one of my favorite quotes ever because it's so relatable, which makes it so empowering. Everyone experiences fear, everyone wants to overcome it. And, Solange Knowles does a great job verbalizing it in her Glamour Woman of the Year speech. Let's make fear our bitch!

3.) “Don’t ever let someone tell you that you can’t do something. You got a dream, you gotta protect it. When people can’t do something themselves, they are going to tell you that you can’t do it. You want something, go get it. Period.” – Will Smith, Pursuit of Happyness

I love this scene in The Pursuit of Happyness.  Chris Gardner (played by Will Smith) tells his son Chris Jr. (played by Jaden Smith) that he shouldn't become a professional basketball player because it was unrealistic. which, understandably, upsets Chris Jr. After noticing the change in his son's demeanor, Chris realizes that wasn't the thought loop that he wanted his son to have in his head. So, he counters his previous statement by telling Chris Jr. not to let anyone tell him that he can't do something, not even him, and to go after his dreams.

4.) “Life is designed to knock you down. It will knock you down time and time again, but it doesn’t matter how many times you fall – it matters how many times you get back up.” - Lilly Singh

A quote that promotes women empowering women. Have faith and get back up!

If you want to be successful, keep getting back up! The greatest lessons are from your falls. With each fall, you get smarter and stronger because you learn different ways to prevent yourself from falling the next time. So, think of it as each fall is just preparing yourself for the next time you get up.

Lilly Singh wrote this in her book How to be a Bawse. And, there are other variations of this quote, too, but I chose Lilly's because she's great and I love her. (I know I'm biased.)

5.) "I don't look at success as a dream. I look at it as a destination. That way, it's not a matter of if I get there, but when." -TimothyDeLaGhetto

Start looking at you being successful as inevitable and it will be. That's what TimothyDeLaGhetto did and look at him now. He tweeted this nearly 8 years ago and now he has over 3 million YouTube subscribers, is on Wild N' Out, and has a net worth of $3 million dollars. The Law of Attraction works, man.

6.) "It is just as hard to go to the other side of a river when you're halfway through as it is to go back. So, keep going." -Sarah Robb O'Hagan

A quote for determination, inspiration, motivation, and perseverance,

I heard this during Sarah's interview on the Girlboss radio podcast and I think about it a lot because it's true. No matter which way you swim, it's going to be hard, so keep moving forward.

7.) "The way through the challenge is to get still and ask yourself, 'What is the next right move?' And then from that space, make the next right move and the next right move. And, not to be overwhelmed by it because you know your life is bigger than that one moment. You know you're not defined by what someone says is a failure for you because failure is just there to point you in a different direction." -Oprah Winfrey

Oprah helps us see that failure isn't a bad thing. It's just as critical for our development as our victories are. It helps us see if we're going in the wrong direction and helps redirects us onto the right path. And, Oprah's not the only one who sees it this way; almost all successful people do! So, it's definitely something to consider as we're on our journey.

P.S. I skipped to the part where she says this, but I highly encourage you to watch the whole discussion. You'll find so many more inspiring tidbits!

8.) "Just because you are blind and unable to see my beauty, doesn't mean it does not exist." -Margaret Cho

A quote about self-love, loving yourself, self-acceptance, and confidence for women.

I love this quote. It really encourages you to love yourself even when it seems as though other people may not like you as much as you would like. If someone can't see that you're beautiful (inside and out), ain't no thang. It's not your fault they don't see what makes you great.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find the original source of this quote, but this was said in one of Margaret Cho's web posts back in 2006.

9.) “I learned many great lessons from my father, not the least of which, was that you can fail at what you don’t want so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love.” - Jim Carey

I first heard this quote in the Join Up Dots podcast, and it immediately put things into perspective.

Have you ever thought about failing at your "safer" career choice? No, I certainly haven't. People may encourage you to go on the more conservative route because it's less risky than pursuing your dreams. They fail to realize that there's risk everywhere. There's a possibility that you will be fired or get laid off; there's a possibility that you will fail.

But, wouldn't it be better to take a chance and fail at pursuing your dreams instead of taking a chance with something that you didn't want to do and fail? If you said yes, go after your dreams! If you said no, then maybe this blog isn't for you.

10.) “The cynics may be the loudest voices - but I promise you, they will accomplish the least.”
- Barack Obama

Coming from a man who has faced so much criticism and cynicism, this is especially powerful. He ignored the negativity and kept persevering. As a result, he became the first black president in a very racist America. If he can ignore the cynics and negativity and still win, we can, too. Just because they don't believe that we can do it doesn't mean we should believe that we can't do it, too.

11.) "You can take more punches than you realize." - Bedros Keuilian

A quote about strength and perseverance. You're stronger than you think.

Bedros Keuilian, an entrepreneur, was being interviewed by Lori Harder on her Earn Your Happy podcast when he told a story about him play fighting his MMA friend in the ring. His friend punches him in the face and Keuilian falls. His friend tells him, "You know, you don't have to fall every time you get punched. Your body knows when to fall, until then just keep fighting." And, it really just hit me. (No pun intended. Well, maybe just a little.)

We're a lot more resilient than we realize physically and mentally. We can overcome so many adversities and obstacles and still not be broken down. I know there are many people who feel as if they "failed" at something, that's it for them. And if you're one of those people, let me just remind you that you're not falling. So, keep fighting. And, if you do end up falling, just get back up because you're stronger than you think.
