Why Root for Growth?

Root for Growth is a double entendre. The first meaning is to root for, or cheer for, your growth. The second meaning is a metaphor with plants and self-growth. Plants have roots; it's their foundation. The stronger the roots, the stronger the plant will be, the more obstacles the plant can take and still survive. It's the same with personal development and your mindset. In this metaphor, you'll be the flower or plant and your mind and development are your roots. The more you develop your mental foundation, the more you'll be able to withstand. So here, I'm rooting for your growth and providing some supplements for your roots so you can grow into a strong, independent person!

Meet the Person Behind the Blog

That's me and my boyfriend, Johny

It was the summer after my senior year of high school. I, Donna Truong, was going to be an adult now, and I was going to college. But, the problem was I didn't know what I wanted to do! How were these people asking me what I wanted to do with my life when I was asking if I could go to the bathroom a couple months ago?! Ridiculous! I couldn't even describe myself to other people; how am I supposed to plan out my whole future? All jokes aside, this was probably the most lost I've ever felt. Everyone else seemed as though they knew where they going in life except for me. I had crazy low-self esteem and felt like I lost my sense of self from giving too much of myself to everyone around me. And, it didn't feel good. I was burnt out and depressed. After months of being in a low state, I decided that I was tired of being sad. This sad, grumpy person who hated herself was not the person I wanted to be.

I wanted to be someone who took risks even when I was scared, loves herself, be confident, actually know who I am, and to enjoy life. But you know what that meant? I needed to stop being a little bitch and do things outside of my comfort zone. I was stopping myself from reaching my potential. I needed to get to know myself and I needed to take care of myself. So, I decided to embark on a self-discovery and self-love journey.

It took me a couple of years to pull myself out of that rut. It was a lot of reconditioning and learning to love myself. It was hard work, but also really fun getting know myself. When I look back on my journey, it's so empowering to see how far I've come, to realize the strength that I have within me, and to build that confidence that I've always wanted and needed. I realize the power of learning how to love yourself, which is why I want to pass on what mindset changes, techniques, lessons, and my experiences onto you!

I want you to be able to feel empowered and strong, too. I want you to build that confidence in yourself, too. I want you to be the best person that you can be, too. With that said, this lifestyle and personal development blog is meant for people who are in the process of building themselves up to be the person that they want to be. Between tips and tricks, inspirational quotes, sharing my experiences, and self-help book recommendations, I'll be alongside you on your journey of self-discovery.
